Effects of World War I
Effects of the Treaty of Versailles
- Blame - Germany is blamed for causing World War I even though they were not the only country involved on the losing side. (Austro-Hungarian Empire, and Ottoman Empire)
- Reparatons - Germany had to pay reparations (damages) caused by the war to France, Belgium, and the winning side.
- Army - Germany was not allowed to have a military more than 100,000 men, and could not build up its forces further.
- Territory - Germany has to give up its colonies, and territory to France (Alsace & Lorraine)

Other Effects
- The League of Nations is set up to help prevent another war, unfortunately the United States doesn't join and it fails.
- The Ottoman Empire is broken up and the countries of Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Iran were created or borders redrawn.
- The Austria-Hungary Empire is broken upand the countries of Austria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, and Yugoslavia were created or borders redrawn.
- The German King (Kaiser Wilhelm II) abdicated (gave up his throne)
- A new German government was created called the Weimar Republic.
- The use of Poison Gas was banned in warfare.
- Many soldiers were wounded both physically and mentally from the effects of the war.
